my account I get a receipt (only if I ask for it) that states, for example, that I put in $100. The receipt does not state what my balance is. Not only that, but if you read my bank's fine print it states that the balance that is in the bank's "computer records" is the correct balance that an individual has, NOT the balance that is issued by any other means (including receipts, etc.). I have a BIG problem with this, and I am very wary of investing my hard-earned money in a place where I am at the mercy of their (hopefully) correct bookkeeping, with no concrete proof of my savings.
I want a receipt EVERY TIME that I deposit or withdraw money that is an as-good-as-gold official document of PROOF of the following:
1) My name and account number, along with the time and date of the amount deposited or withdrawn
2) My balance up to the second AFTER the deposit or withdrawal.
My question is : 1) Why isn't what I propose FEDERAL LAW for many years, already? I shouldn't have to gripe about this on Yahoo! Answers.
2)What can I do to protect myself from the POTENTIAL of a computer or bookkeeping error which could wipe out my account? What do other people do?
In this case I would have no real proof that I had "X" amount in my account, since none of my receipts state the balance, and even if it did, it would not be official proof of how much money I had. This is just scary.|||I know of no bank that does not give the receipt with the deposit amount and the date. If they use your name and account number, then you lose this receipt, someone finds it, uses your bank account to clean it out. There is a number on the receipt that will tie it back to your account. If the put the balance on it, and you need someone to make a deposit for you do you want them seeing your balance? The deposit cannot be credited immediately if it is not cash since they must wait for a check to clear before it is actually in your account, so if they give you a receipt showing a balance that is not accurate since it is not yet available, and you use this info to withdraw funds, the deposit check bounces, making you overdrawn ,you will blame the bank. Your monthly statement is the proof you have and if there is an error, you can get the bank to correct it by showing your receipts.|||If you don't like their practices, simply switch banks. There are enough to choose from that already do what you want.
