My husbands pay goes direct deposit, and we wrote a check to our landlord for $300 He cashed it and it posted.

I then withdrew all of the rest of our money from that account to put in our new checking account. Two days later the bank statement said my checked was returned. What do I do now? Im not sure if he cashed it or deposited it but the money is in there now, will his bank try to cash it a second time to get the money or automatically contact him? I live in NC. Thanks|||Call the landlord and tell him the story. Call the bank and find out what happened? Call your company and have them send a letter to the bank and the landlord.|||As long as the money is there, you won't have to worry, however, you will be charged a bounced check fee. This happens all the time.|||It could show bounce check and give you bad credits.

Sometimes in the statement it shows pending within 2 days, which doesn't mean the money was already taken out.

Your landlord's bank won't cash it the 2nd time. At least not that I know of.|||It would be a good idea for you to contact your landlord and explain the mix up. You don't want your landlord to think you make a habit of bouncing checks.

If the check was returned to him, offer to settle up with him in cash.|||You should never write a check without funds are cleared, you should have checked with the bank first to see if your husbands direct deposit was available. Then wait for a day or so before writing a check. You should have went to your landlord and told him that when the deposit was cleared he would get his $300.00.|||Something isn't right with what you are stating. You say the check was cashed and it POSTED, and then you turn around and say you are not sure. Either it posted or it didn't.

Once a check has POSTED, that's it. Done. Over, Money gone out of your account...whatever is left you should have been free to take out.

This isn't a "NC" thing, you need to go to the bank and find out what happened. You'll discover that the check was probably "pending" for posting, but you took the money out before it actually "posted".

That is the ONLY way your account got messed up.
